Steps to maintaining the pool salt cell

The salt chlorine generator, if properly maintained, can last for the longest time possible while giving you optimal service. Several issues will make the cell perform poorly or even get spoilt. Thus, you need thorough check through proper maintenance by a qualified professional. Following are some of the steps you need to follow to ensure that the pool salt cell is maintained at the right condition.

Ensure proper maintenance of the chemical levels

Balancing of the pool’s chemical operating ranges within the operational ranges is critical to maximizing the life of your pool cell. The cells inside the SGC rapidly deteriorate if they operate outside the required ranges. If the pool stabilizer gets too low, the pool water will not hold chlorine and this would mean that the SGC cell is not performing adequately. On the other hand, if the PH level is too low, chlorine will be oxidized faster and therefore it becomes difficult its right level.

Constantly inspect the cell- LED

There is always some light indicator with SGC systems, which acts as a reminder to periodically check your cell. It is programmed in a way that it will come on after every five hundred hours. After you get this signal, inspect it and clean where necessary.  After that, you can turn off the cell off by pressing the diagnostic button for like three seconds.

Ensure that the SGC system is ON

The system can properly generate chlorine if it is in the AUTO mode and therefore this is an issue you need to keep an eye on. There is no need for having a system that doesn’t perform its functions. Thus, ensure that you have the system checked and that every part is properly functioning.

Check the system percentage output

Chlorine use can be increased by warm water and heavy bather load.  A perfect way of increasing the amount of chlorine produced is by increasing the output.  Always, ensure that you do a check on the amount produced and try increasing the output by about 30%- it would increase the amount of chlorine produced. Again, all this takes time and thus you have to give it up to thirty-six hours to see the performance.

Check the level of the salt

If the pool’s salt, levels are too low or high, the SGC would shut off. The typical range of operation for this system is 2700 to 3500 but this varies depending on the type of SCG. To measure the salt level use salt strips and this should be done periodically to verify the values. SGC readings are not very accurate and therefore should only be used a general indication of the pool’s salt level.

Check the temperature of the pool

With a low temperature at the pool, the LED that generates chlorine will start flashing and that would mean no chlorine generated. At these temperatures, the pool does not need much chlorine and if need be, you can manually shock it with liquid chlorine.
